When you donate or recycle your car or vehicle it will be picked up and towed to auction and sold. Below you will find very specific information about the laws, statutes or codes pertaining to title transfer as handled by the auction company. If you have any questions about your title or if you have a salvage title or a lost title you can check below.

We will send detailed instructions and the phone number for the auction company when we start the pick up process. After you receive these instructions, if you have any other questions concerning the vehicle title, you should speak with the knowledgeable people in the title department of the auction company.

5. How do I appraise an abandoned vehicle?

Following are guidelines to assist law enforcement agencies and others who appraise abandoned vehicles.

General Appraisal Guidelines

1) Assess vehicle condition

Is the vehicle in good, fair or poor condition?

Is the vehicle junk? If the vehicle has been destroyed or dismantled or changed in such a manner that it is no longer a motor vehicle, it would be considered a junk vehicle.

What is the level of damage? (slight, moderate or extreme)

Can the damage be repaired without replacement?

2) Compute value using the NADA Appraisal Guides and figure net recovery estimate.

Net recovery for salvage is usually 20 - 25% of the loan value or 17% of retail.

Net recovery for undamaged cars can be estimated at 60% of the loan value with adjustments made for mileage and or equipment.

3) Establish fair market value.

Consideration for area of sale and demand for the vehicle should be included when establishing a fair market value for a vehicle.

4) Complete the Appraisal For Abandoned Vehicles section of the DR2173

Complete the Engine ID field if the vehicle is a 1953 or earlier year model or a motorcycle.

Complete the General Vehicle Condition field based on step #1 listed above.

Complete the Appraised Value field based on Step #3 listed above.

Mark the box for either Law Enforcement Agency or Colorado Licensed Dealership. If Licensed Dealer, list dealer number.

Complete the Agency/Dealership Name field with either the law enforcement agency that you represent or the dealership that you represent.

Sign and date with the date that the appraisal is being completed. Remember that you are signing under penalty of perjury that all information that you are providing is true and correct to the best of your knowledge.
