When donating a car it is necessary to transfer ownership. Various states have different regulations on how this is done. This page is a collection of actual references from various state web sites.

REGULAR COUNTY LICENSE PLATES AND VEHICLE REGISTRATIONS ARE OBTAINED FROM THE LOCAL COUNTY TREASURER'S OFFICES IN THE COUNTY SEAT OF THE COUNTY OF RESIDENCE.

WYOMING TITLES AND LIEN FILINGS ARE PROCESSED BY THE LOCAL COUNTY CLERKS' OFFICES IN THE COUNTY SEAT OF THE COUNTY OF RESIDENCE.

The Registration and Titling Section of the State Motor Vehicle Services Department:

Conducts Wyoming vehicle title and registration searches by written request for legitimate business purposes. Searches can be made by name, vehicle identification number, license plate or title number. Requests must be submitted on a privacy disclosure agreement and accompanied by a $5.00 fee per vehicle or inquiry. There are no charges for searches requested by law enforcement or governmental entities.

Processes applications for personalized prestige license plates, radio amateur license plates, pioneer license plates, governmental license plates and specialty plates only.

Issues state assigned vehicle identification numbers to homemade or rebuilt vehicles.

Identifies abandoned vehicles left on private property or by request from Sheriff 's offices.
