  • Complete the Application for a Duplicate Title (MVR-4), in the presence of a notary. The application must be completed exactly the same as the original title was issued.
  • Furnish a $10.00 duplicate title fee.
  • If the original title has a lien on the vehicle, the lienholder must complete the bottom portion of MVR-4 in the presence of a notary or furnish a lien release
  • All applications for duplicate titles must age 15 days.

5. What Vessels Must be Titled?

  • Many other states require that all motor-powered vessels be titled. In North Carolina, a vessel title is optional. A title provides extra ownership protection which many people desire. Often, lenders require applying for a title as a condition for granting a loan on a vessel.
