You recently sent Teddy Bears to Mr. Kevin North of the Simsbury Volunteer Fire Department. They eventually came to us at the Simsbury Volunteer Ambulance Association. We are very grateful for this donation and we certainly share the same philosophy about giving sick and injured children a small fury friend to divert their attention and thoughts. |
In Simsbury , Connecticut the Fire Department and Ambulance Association are both independent volunteer organizations performing their separate tasks except in the case of disasters when we all work together. The Simsbury Volunteer Ambulance Association responds to over 1200 calls per year, many of which are for children. |
It has been our tradition over the years to provide each child and teenager when appropriate, a small fury creature. For the most part, these animals have been donations from various sources. However, your letter comes at a time when the donations seem to have dried up, so we would be very interested in continuing to receive Teddy Bears. |
In the case of child injuries, we try to bandage their new fury friend to represent the child's specific injury, It is amazing how this little act will make the tears disappear and establish the needed relationship between patient and EMT! |
Your contact with us should be Mike Delehanty, Executive Director. He can be reached at 860-658-0448 or at the address shown on our letterhead. Again our thanks to you and your staff of volunteers for participating in such a worthwhile project. We all know the benefits! |
