Dear Executive Director:

On the behalf of the Chief of Police, William A. Hogan and the members of the Rocky Mount Police Department, I would like to thank you and your Staff and Volunteers for the 48 teddy bears that were donated to our police department. At the present time the Rocky Mount Police Department has a program called "Teddies-On-Patrol" in which these teddy bears can be utilized.

Our feelings are identical in that a teddy bear may not change the world but it can make one life a little better. Extensive research has shown that teddy bears often calm a child when they are suffering from a traumatic experience.

Rocky Mount Police Officers are responsible for determining when a teddy bears needs to be given to a child. But we encourage officers to give teddy bears to children who are injured as a result of an motor vehicle accident or abuse to lost or missing children after they are found, to children who are involved in a domestic dispute and/or during the arrest of a child's parent while they are present. We hope that the teddy bear helps comfort the child and makes the child feel that police officers care even when situations are not pleasant.

We graciously accept and will use your gifts in the spirit in which they were given. I have enclosed a business card for your use in contacting me or in sending future donations.

Thank you,
