Dear Executive Director,

Yesterday , the large box of teddy bears which you shipped arrived at the Roanoke Police Department. I wanted to thank you for the bears and assure you that we will work to find them all good homes.

Our department has participated with the local Civitan Club for a number of years in providing bears to traumatized children. The bears are placed into plastic bags to keep them dust-free in the trunk of our patrol cars. Over the years we have collected many stories of children comforted by having something of their own to hold on to at a difficult time. There is also an added benefit for our officers who sometimes feel helpless in these situations. Although they may not see the child again, seeing the child clutch a teddy bear as they enter the ambulance or emergency room helps the officers to know that they have done something good for one person.
