Dear Executive Director:

How wonderful it was to receive your box of teddy bears earlier today!

I strongly support your belief that these little "furry friends" can be most helpful in reducing the immediate effects of critical incident stress upon children involved in fire emergencies, trauma incidents, or other crisis situations.

Your bears have been placed in appropriate Fire Department vehicles so to be accessible at emergency incidents involving children. I assure you the bears will fulfill your hopes of assisting children in our community in times of trouble, fear, or apprehension.

The Township of Irvington Fire Department serves an urban population (mostly low to moderate income citizens) of over 65,000 people in a three square mile radius. Our crime rate and number of annual fire incidents are, not surprisingly, quite high. All things considered, our public safety forces have an extremely
challenging job before them.

Your thoughtfulness and generosity in providing the teddy bears will have a significant and positive impact upon our ability to protect and serve our community, particularly our children.

I shall keep you posted of our progress with the teddy bear program and hope you can provide us with additional bears as we share your "hopes for an improved future for our next generation."
