Dear Executive Director,

Thank you for your donation of teddy bears from the "Teddy Bear Program ". The program is excellent and a great benefit to our agency. We have provided the Community Oriented Policing/Patrol, Traffic Homicide, and Youth Service Officers with some of the donated bears. I am the Lieutenant of the Public Affairs Section. This section includes the Crime Prevention Unit. We attend numerous Crime Prevention/Children Safety Events with display booths and presentations. Most recently we participated in an event titled "Holiday in the Park". The Hollywood Police Department worked in conjunction with numerous other entities of the City of Hollywood. Hollywood Police, along with Citizens' Crime Watch, set up a Children Safety booth and display. We presented and discussed safety information to the parents and children attending the event. We also gave away important information reference all areas of children safety, from stranger danger awareness to information on the proper way to install child restraint seats.

The idea arisen, upon the receipt of the teddy bears, to do special activities during our Children Safety display booth. It is great how the "Teddy Bear Program " promotes the concept of giving children or adults, the bears in frightening situations, which will aid the victims during frightening situations and traumatic events. We also gave these bears out during a proactive event. We distributed the bears to assist in educating children on safety and develop their awareness in helping prevent traumatic situations. During our "Holiday in the Park" Children Safety display booth we had the children answer questions on talking to strangers, seat belt safety, crossing the street, wearing a bicycle helmet, how to ride a bicycle safely, why not to use drugs and many other safety rules.

Like in your letter you wrote, "maybe it can make one life a little better, and another, and another ". We believe this concept also. We saw first hand how the children were eager to learn the concepts and answer the safety questions. They really wanted and liked the bears. The children and parents were really involved in learning the important safety information. The children and parents made promises that they would practice the safety information they learned. They promised us from the police department and they promised the Teddy Bears, sponsored by your organization. They promised to keep the Teddy Bear safe with all the safety information they learned.

Once again thank you for your Teddy Bear gifts. This is just one success story from our department. I can guarantee that there are many other success stories from the Community Oriented Policing/Patrol, Traffic Homicide, and Youth Services Units. We would greatly appreciate additional bears to make other lives a little better.

Thank you in advance for additional bears. If we can assist your organization in any way, please fell free to contact Lt. Tony Rode, Public Affairs Section, Hollywood Police Department at (954) 967-4316.

Thank you,
