Dear Executive Director and Staff:
The Greensboro Police Department graciously accepts your donation of bears. Your donation will become a part of our Officer Ted E. Bear Program. Our program was implemented in May of 1989. The objective of the program is to relieve children of stress when they are directly or indirectly affected by a situation that requires an officer's presence. Often police officers are involved in situations in which small children are the innocent victims or witnesses.
The Officer Ted E. Bear Program has been of great benefit to our Department. The bears become a part of all patrol vehicles' inventory. Each vehicle has one to two teddy bears at all times. We adhere a miniature version of the Department's shoulder patch to the chest of each bear. We hope this bear leaves the child feeling that the police care even when situations demanding police presence are unpleasant.
Research has shown that teddy bears soothe and calm a child in traumatic situations. The teddy bear becomes a symbol of faithfulness, trustworthiness and loyalty to the child. The Officer Ted E. Program has been sustained by donations from private citizens and organizations like yours. Our program will benefit greatly from your donation. The Department's Public Affairs Director has been informed of your offer to donate additional bears upon request.

Sincerely,
