Car donations - Good or Bad?
Car Donation Charity Stories 2
"What are the drawbacks when donating your used car or vehicle?"
Is a question many donors ask themselves when they are considering donating their vehicle, and a question that is easily answered when you look over the facts and your options.
You could try and sell your vehicle, the amount you would receive for it would depend on its age, condition and many other factors. Let’s say you did sell your vehicle, while you’d be getting cash in your pocket take a look at what you might have to go through in order to achieve that.
- Putting adds in news papers and other publications
- Having people test-drive your car
- Strangers calling your house at odd hours
- Calling all of your friends to see if they’re interested in buying it.
- Haggling with buyers
- Being taken advantage from by shameless buyers
You could sum it up by saying donating your car is the easiest and most hassle-free way to get rid of your vehicle. Although you won’t be walking away with cash in your pocket as you would if you sold the vehicle yourself, you would have instead saved yourself countless hours and after all, 'time is money'. You also would receive a tax deduction if you itemize. And last but not least you would have helped a child in need by supporting the charity.
So in answer to the question: "What are the drawbacks when donating your used car or vehicle?"
None at all.
Read the stories bellow from Police and Fire officials for real life examples:
From a Chief of Police: What a pleasant surprise it was to open a carton full of teddy bears you sent to us to give to children who have experienced some trauma or disaster in their lives. I assure you they will be carried in our police cruisers and given as a source of comfort to needy children.
I support your hopes for an improved future for our next generation, and thank you for your thoughtful and generous donation.
From an Abused Children Justice Center: Thank you so much for your recent donation of teddy bears to the Police Department. We appreciate your kindness. Your gifts will brighten the day of the children we serve. Once again, thanks you for your support and spirit of community service.
From a Fire Fighters Association: I recently received a box of Teddy Bears that your association sent to the Department. Coincidentally we had just used our last Teddy Bear the day before, so your timing was perfect. We have been giving out Teddies for the past six years. We often get letters and monetary donations from the families of the children to whom we have provided emergency medical care. Enclosed you will find a check from the Professional Fire Fighters to help defray the cost associated with the program.
Thank you very much for the benevolent gesture, we will continue to provide the young children in our community with these "small furry friends" which do help to relieve some of the stress related to injury and illness.
From another Fire Fighters Association: Thank you for the box of teddy bears you sent to the Fire Department. The Fire Department responds to approximately 3000 emergency medical calls per year, and many of these calls involve young children. When the emergency medical technicians give these teddy bears to the young injured or sick children, it always brings a smile to their faces.
I realize that your association sends boxes of teddy bears throughout the country, however, we can always use more bears.Thank you again for your generous donation.
From another Fire Fighters Association: In the past, your organization has donated teddy bears for our use during emergency situations. Our department has found that they are working well and are greatly accepted by the children who are involved during vehicle accidents, fires, or other emergency situations. Your teddy bears take their minds off their traumas and help in calming them during these situations.
We are, however, in need of more of these little bears and are requesting your assistance in acquiring them.
On behalf of the Fire Department please accept our sincere thanks and appreciation for your generous donation and please know that these bears will be extremely helpful as we respond to the needs of the citizens throughout the city.Again, THANKS, and should our department ever be able to assist you please do not hesitate to call on us.
