Increase Car Donation Auction Sale Price

How to increase the auction sale value of your vehicle

It’s a well known fact that car donations which don’t run or drive sell considerably less than cars that do.

If your vehicle does not run and only requires minor repairs then we’ve got good news. You’re in the fortunate circumstance where you can significantly increase the sale potential of your car donation by tending to whatever repair(s) which are keeping your vehicle from running.

For example if your vehicle’s value in operational condition is $2000.00 but it isn’t operational because it needs a new battery & spark plugs ($75.00 repair) then the sale potential would be reduced to $1000.00 or below just because it doesn’t run!

Don’t let such a minor repair reduce the sale potential of your car donation. Why not go the extra mile and get more bang for your buck?

Here are some common minor repairs which can make a world of difference:

  • New Spark plugs
  • New Battery
  • Inflated Tires

For those who’d like to take it to the next level there are more expensive repairs which could be done to get the vehicle running again thus increasing the auction sale value when you donate your car.

Moderate Repairs:

  • Brakes, pads, shoes, rotors.
  • Distributor cap
  • Starter
  • Ignition
  • Alternator
  • Serpentine belt
  • Drive belt
  • V Belt
  • Fan belt

Expensive Repairs:

  • Head Gasket
  • Water pump
  • Gas pump
  • Timing belt
  • Radiator
  • Axel
  • Clutch
  • Transmission
  • Catalytic converter
  • Master cylinder
  • Transaxle
  • CV-Joint

What Else Can I do?

Making a vehicle operational again isn’t the only thing you can do to increase its sale potential. In fact there is something so easy which you can do your self and it doesn’t cost any money! And that is washing the outside and cleaning the inside.

We all know what they say about first impressions, and that most definitely applies when you donate a car that is being sold at auction. Even if your car is old or slightly damaged, having it clean and tidy makes a difference. It is always a turn off seeing a filthy car, especially on the interior.

Make Your Car More Presentable:

  1. Give the outside a good washing, the main goal here is to have the body, tires and windows clean.
  2. Remove all personal items and garbage from the interior.
  3. Dust surfaces and clean upholstery.
  4. Optionally, you can “armour all” the vinyl or leather to give it a nice shine and do the same for the tires to give them a dark shiny appearance.

You could do all of this yourself or if you’re not so inclined you can bring your car to an auto detail company and have them do it for you.

Why not do as much as you can to increase the selling potential of your car?
