Fading Brake Pedal

If you ever hold your foot on your brake pedal only to feel the brake pedal wither, wane and slowly fall to the floor, you have a break pedal fade and probably a leak in your brake master cylinder or some other kind of fluid leak.

Check for leaks

As soon as possible, have your mechanic look and carefully check for leaks in your metal brake lines and brake hoses.

Look again for leaks

If after your mechanic repairs ALL leaks and your brake pedal still too easily yields to pressure, meaning your brakes aren’t firm "to the touch" take your vehicle back to your mechanic and insist he look again for leaks.

Better yet, go to another brake shop and have someone else look for a leak.

Mechanics being human, are subject to the same follies as all of us, don’t like being criticized, and therefore just might not be as diligent in looking for additional leaks as a new mechanic might be.

Low Brake Pedal

Certainly brake pedals have various heights in different makes and models of vehicles and even in similar vehicles.

Adjust brake pedal

If your brake pedal becomes lower than it used to be, you’ll need to have your brakes adjusted or your brakes have become worn.

Self Adjusting Brakes

With self-adjusting brakes, choose a safe place and try backing up your vehicle and then suddenly braking.

Do this three or four times, where you will not endanger pedestrians or hit another vehicle.

Get your brakes thoroughly checked

If this process doesn’t bring your brake pedal back to its normal height, you’ll need your brakes thoroughly checked.
