G.I. Teddy

American Servicemen & Servicewomen overseas are in store for a surprise. A very special care package is being put together for them, but not of candy, snacks or trinkets; something more heart-felt, something with love & care written all over it.
A shipment of 140,000 furry Teddy Bears will embark from Santa Clara California this weekend. Its destination: The war torn ravages of Afghanistan and Iraq.
It’s called the Bear Hug Campaign and it is being organized and managed by Operation: Care and Comfort a nonprofit group based out of Santa Clara California. Since April 2003 the group has shipped over 400,000 pounds of care packages to American Servicemen & women overseas.
One of their present goals is to deliver 140,000 blue plush teddy bear with red and white stitching with the message, "We support and hug you." to our troops overseas.
How will they pull off this barrage of care? Julie De Maria, cofounder of Operation: Care and Comfort describes the logistics:
A company of 100 volunteers will package the bears at the NOSC (Navy Operational Support Center). Then the package will be brought to Main Post office of Santa Clara for shipment.
But it doesn’t stop there. Operation: Care and Comfort plans to distribute an additional 90,000 bears to patients in veteran’s hospitals throughout Santa Clara County. And if that wasn’t enough another 70,000 will be sent to more of our soldiers.
The Bear Hug Campaign is possible thanks to the generosity and undying devotion of entrepreneur David Hamblett who donated $400,000 of his on funds to make this wonderful project happen.
As an added touch of sincerity and love, many bears will include handwritten notes from children or senior citizens, imparting their appreciation and thanks for the courage of the troops.
Our Charity
Although our charity (Teddy Bear Cops™) doesn’t provide bears to American servicemen, we do provide furry teddy bear friends to troubled and needing children at the scenes of accidents or other incidents. We’re having great success, thanks to firemen, policemen and other individuals all over the nation, see for yourself.
