Furry Friends
March 10, 2008
Do you remember as a child how comforting it was to embrace your beloved favourite stuffed animal? And how that special friend provided you with a certain feeling of security and protection?
In times of mental or physical pain it is especially important to have that security and assurance that a furry friend can provide.
Enter the American Advertising Federation . A group whose sole concern is the distribution of stuffed animals to emergency officials so they can then provide the animals to the affected children they encounter in their duties.
Just a few weeks ago today the Wichita Falls Chapter donated dozens of stuffed animals to the Wichita Falls PD. The local emergency departments have deployed a new program called the “Hug-a-Bear” program, which provides children in unfortunate situations with friendly stuffed animals.
Domestic disputes, accidents, burglaries, assaults, happen all too often and the effect it has on children is devastating. Although a stuffed animal won’t turn back time and avert the tragedy, it will more often than not turn a frown upside down.
“Their world has just been turned upside-down,” said Officer Harold McClure, a public information officer for the Wichita Falls Police Department.
Over the past months the American Advertising Federation has been gathering stuffed animals, with the goal of collecting 1-2000 a year. Their ultimate goal is to have a teddy bear in every patrol car, ambulance and other emergency services vehicle; then they could have the capacity to bring smiles to children on a much larger scale.
Residents of the Wichita Falls area are encouraged to donate a new stuffed animal to help this cause. For the donation may make the difference between a child crying and traumatized and a child smiling and happy.
Our Charity Program
It goes without saying that during emergency situations children are especially vulnerable to trauma. A little cuddly bear given to a child at times like this can calm and distract the child and prevent serious instability. Many police, ambulance and fire officials want more bears. We hope you will support the Teddy Bear Cops™ Program by donating your car or any vehicle so we can put these furry friends in the hands of officials so they can help the children.
