Teddy bears donated

March 10, 2008

The generous donation of 12 dozen bears will be given to children who’ve been the victim of various. traumatic circumstances.

Courtesy of Mrs. Pat Zimmer, just this Thursday the Chatham-Kent Bears for Kids program had their teddy bear stocks replenished.

Mrs. Zimmer purchased said teddy bears with a $1,000 donation which she received from the annual Bell Aliant community spirit award.

Being an active volunteer for over a decade, Mrs. Zimmer is applauded for her undying altruism and support of community activities. Whether coaching at the Chatham Ringette program, helping out the kids at the Junior Achievement program, or promoting environmental awareness with the Festival of Tress, Mrs. Zimmer is there to lend a helping hand to her fellow man. Couple those contributions with her latest teddy bear donation it’s clear to see that she’s a noble woman.

Constable Bernie Louwerse of the Chatham-Kent PD remarked upon this, “We very much appreciate this financial donation from Bell Aliant and Pat”. He continued to describe the C-K Bears for Kids Program. In essence the program supplies police officers and other emergency officials with teddy bears which they then give to children they encounter in unfortunate or crisis situations.

"It might involve family violence, where a child or parent is removed from the home,'' he said. "And the bears are often handed out to children involved in motor vehicle crashes.''

Constable Louwerse then continued to comment upon the program’s great effectiveness and its ability to bridge the gap from the men and women in law enforcement to children and create a positive relationship between them.

Thus far, since the programs’ inception in ’99 over three hundred teddy bears have been distributed into the hands of needing children, brining many smiles all around.

What We Do - Teddy Bear Cops™ Program

During emergency situations children are especially vulnerable to the immediate trauma. A simple cuddly little bear given to a child at times like this can have a marvelous and calming effect. There are police, ambulance and fire officials all over the country that have found this to be true and need and want more bears. We hope you will support this cause by donating your car or any vehicle.
