The Honolulu Police Department receives on average an estimated 250,000 emergency calls a year, according to Lt. Charles Chong. Emergency officials respond to incidences such as domestic disputes and traffic accidents to homicides and aggravated assaults.

In 2005 alone there were 3,579 arrests for DUI (Driving Under the Influence), 2,889 arrests for theft and 500 for aggravated assaults.

When children are involved in such tragedies the effect it has upon them is very often traumatic.

But with the help of the Teddy Bear Cops Program children are finding something to smile about and divert their attention from the tragedy at hand.
